Bone Grafting

Bone Grafting

Although bone tends to regenerate over time, there are several reasons our Oral Surgeon may suggest a bone grafting procedure. One reason is because once a tooth is removed the jaw may lack sufficient quantity and quality of bone to securely support an implant. Another reason you may require grafting is because as we age the bone in our jaws tends to atrophy. Periodontal disease, poorly fitting dentures can also lead to bone loss. Or, perhaps you were involved in an accident and suffered facial trauma. The goal of bone grafting is to both increase the quantity and quality of bone to support implants, but also to encourage natural regeneration of lost bone.
