Treatment of wisdom teeth, and I don’t just say wisdom teeth removal, it’s treatment of wisdom teeth, is a cornerstone of our practice. We have tons of patients that are referred to us and find us on their own, whether it’s on the internet or referred from a family or coworker that come with a referral that says, take out all four wisdom teeth. Or they come in saying, I need all my wisdom teeth out.
The first bell that goes off in my mind is, does this person truly need them out? So your visit here will start with an initial consultation where we get to know each other. We may take a specialized x-ray to show us where these teeth are and the adjacent anatomy. From there, we sit down at a table, like person to person.
We review your x-ray, we talk this through, I make some recommendations, and in many cases, not every wisdom tooth needs to be removed. But my philosophy is that every young adult in their late teens, early twenties, needs them evaluated. Some people have no wisdom teeth.
Some people have four and they don’t need to come out, they can keep them clean. Other people need all four taken out and they decide to be sedated for their procedure. In some cases, if these teeth are in and they’re straight and they’re healthy, they can be maintained just by regular visits to your dentist.
But if they do need treatment, you’re in the right place. We’re not gonna give you a cookie cutter, automatically take out all four of your wisdom teeth. We’re gonna decide together what’s the right recommendations for you.
If one tooth is too risky and it’s not giving you trouble, then perhaps we modify that classic treatment plan of removing all four and just addressing what needs to be done. Then there’s patients that come to us in pain and all they wanna do is get out of pain. That’s our specialty.
We’ll get you in here, we’ll figure out the problem, we’ll get you out of pain, and perhaps in a couple of weeks or a couple of months, we’ll circle back and then discuss the rest of your wisdom teeth to make a decision if having them removed is the best thing for you.
